Savannah State reaches historic scoring mark in home-opener Thursday night

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Savannah State women’s basketball team had its first home game of the season Thursday night, and went on to roll through Trinity Baptist 122-48.
122 points is the most scored in a single game for the Tigers in more than six years (155, 11/6/18 vs. Wesleyan).
Six Savannah State players scored in double figures in the win. Kayla Grant led the way with 20 points, adding 12 rebounds and five steals. Johnson graduate K’Lya Hankerson poured in 19 points on 8 of 12 shooting.
Amani Hamilton and Mya Byrd both score 16 points, with Byrd adding 10 assists. Alayah Birch added 15, with Jaliyah Harper scoring 10.
The Tigers shot 57.3% from the floor as a team, hitting 51 of 89 total shots.
Savannah State improves to 2-1 on the young season. The next game for the Tigers is Saturday, November 23rd when they hit to road to play Georgia Southwestern State.
